Taveuni is one of the most beautiful islands in Fiji with so much to do by land or by sea. Makaira uses locally owned privately contracted drivers who are more than happy to take you anywhere to want to go.
Hiking
Lavena- This was the location for much of the movie, Return to Blue Lagoon. The Coastal walk takes in the wild and scenic coastline and Wainibau Waterfalls. The walk takes approximately 2 hours each way; it is graded- easy to moderate. Plan on about a 6 hour day when you include your waterfall swim and eating your packed lunch and a few stops just to admire the beautiful scenery.
Bouma Falls- If you have an afternoon to fill, this is an adventurous half day tour to Bouma National Heritage Park. Walk back to the second falls and get great coastal views, some of the best rainforest in Fiji and an abundance of birds.
Vindawa Rain Forest- The tour includes your own private guide from the village who will happily teach you the medicinal uses of plants, point out exotic birds and for those interested in the darker history of Taveuni will show you some of the sacrificial sites. It is an all day tour that ends up at Bouma falls.
Bird watching- Since Taveuni was not invaded by mongoose the endemic bird population is healthy and varied. For serious and enthusiastic bird watchers that want to see specific birds then Varun is the amazing bird watching expert guide with access to areas no one else is allowed. Bird watchers travel far and wide to partake in his tours and ability to find certain species. For the casual bird watchers, we have some of the species on our property and one can view more of our unusual looking bird populations on their hikes.

West Coast Tour
This tour includes shopping in town, the international dateline and the newly restored historic Wairiki Catholic church one of the oldest buildings in Fiji at 152 years old from the completion date that prior took 36 years to build. It has a lot of history. If you go to a Sunday Mass although the service is in Fijian you will think the angels came down to sing to you. However, all the shops are closed on Sunday. If you are feeling adventuresome you can go to the natural rock waterslides for some real fun.
Waitabu Marine Park
Waitabu Marine Park was established as a reserve in 1998, a lovely way to spend a day in the sea. There are lots of tropical fish and a beautiful reef. However, it is tide dependent so there are only a couple of weeks out of the month where they are able to give guests guided tours.
Horseback Riding
For those that would rather go trail riding instead of bush walking, Charlie has some very well trained horses outfitted with English riding gear. He offers tours that range from 2 hours to all day, some include caves all include beautiful scenery with a lovely guide.
