What does Makaira mean?

Makaira has many meaning in various languages. In Latin it is the name for all Billfish (marlin) In one Fijian dialect it means peaceful, in Greek there is a similar word that means a gift from God, and in Hawaiian Makai means by the sea. All of these meanings encompass what Makaira by the Sea is to us and our guests.. We have named the Grander Suite not only because it is Grand but each accommodation is named after marlin and Grander is the term for any Marlin that weighs over 1,000 lbs.

There is so much to do on Taveuni, to encourage our guests to take the time to fully enjoy this beautiful island and sea we offer discounts for stays of 7 days or more.

Grander Suite Bure

For 7 nights or more, we will be offering the Grander Suite at over a 10% discount for 165.00 USD a night (not including tax ,82.50 per person based on double occupancy) For less then 7 nights the price will be 185.00 a night  (not including tax) or (92.50 per person based on double occupancy).  Discounted from 210.00 per night

Marlin Bure

For stays of 7 nights or more a discounted rate of over 10% applies for a rate of 120.00USD per day for the entire cottage. Our daily rate is 135.00 USD per day. Discounted from 155.00 a night
